Mexico 2010
We flew over to Cancun from New York in January 2010. By evacuation the Newark Airport, we have lost a day, what has brought my plan a little messed up. We landed late in the afternoon and have picked up our rental car, a Renault Clio. Since we had only booked a hotel for the last few days in Playa del Carmen, we had always been looking for accommodation ourselves. In Playa del Carmen we bought some food for the next days and drove to Tulum.
The next day we went early in the morning to the temple in Tulum. The location right on the gorgeous caribbean beach is really great as we would have stayed even longer. Then we went to Fort San Felipe and drove by the lagoons of Bacalar and on to the nearby jungle ruins of Kohunlich. After the visit we still drove to Palenque. Early in the morning we went to the ruins of Palenque. After the tour we went to the waterfalls Misol-Ha and Agua Azul. After a few walks we drove to Campeche, where we visited the old town. On The next day we drove to the ruins of Edzna and to the temple complex of Uxmal, which was already very large and impressive. At the evening we were in the city of Merida and went to the direction of Chichen Itza. Early in the morning we visited the famous temple complex of Chichen Itza. The overall and just the pyramid of Kukulcan is very interesting and worth seeing. Then we looked at the Cenote Samula and drove to Coba where we visited the ruins. A climb up the Nohoch-Mul pyramid was more exhausting than I thought, a really good fitness program. In the evening we were to Cancun, ate a bit and then drove further south to Puerto Morelos. The next three days we spent in Playa del Carmen. We were much on the gorgeous caribbean sea, have us been at a few beaches and relaxed a little bit.
In the few days we have seen a lot and took a lot of impressions. The temples are really interesting, they are very different and yet have much in common. The roads can be very lonely, on the left and on the right was only jungle and from 5 o'clock in the afternoon it was already very dark. In addition, there was really nasty ride obstacles and crossings without barriers, one we had almost not seen. We have made about 2300 km in the 4 1/2 days, the driving was really hard because we have not slept really much. In federal limits were small military checkpoints, as the Mexicans can not or do not want to speak english, and we do not speak spanish, communication was a bit difficult but no problem. The people were very nice, but also a little skeptical. It was a beautiful, but very strenuous vacation and it was definitely too short!
