Hong Kong 2009

In January 2009, we flew via Hong Kong to Indonesia, with a 2-day stopover. Hong Kong is a very interesting city with many contrasts. You should observe the warning signs, which is not allowed in some places and where you have to pay fines. Smoking is, for example, only in determined marked areas allowed, as well as performing dogs. Eating and feed pigeons are not allowed everywhere. That was interesting and the fees are not just low. Public transport is easy to use in Hong Kong and very clean, whether metro, tram or the Star Ferries. The best impression you get is to explore the city on foot. There are really strange things, such as bizarre residential skyscraper and 100-meter-high bamboo scaffolding. The food is to be recommended without hesitation, rice and chicken, there are almost on every corner.

On arrival at the huge airport, we quickly went by train and bus to the hotel and then directly on to the financial district. The skyscrapers are already stunning. Then we went to the Victoria Peak with the Peak Tram and have enjoyed the view from the Sky Terrace. After a walk through the financial district we were a little bit shopping and then have been at the harbor. With the Star Ferry we went to Kowloon and had a walk on the promenade along the Nathan Road strolled. In the evening we have admired the skyline, really impressive. Some Japanese have take photographs and have told me some settings and made a tripod shortly available. That was really nice, and perhaps the beginning of getting closer with the camera and the photography.

The next day we took the tram to Happy Valley. There we have looked at the hippodrome, where horse racing also be transmitted via canvas and the fervent residents can bet. After a walk through the Causeway Bay district we then rested a little in the Victoria Park and watched the people, which was really interesting. Where you look, there is always something else, from meditation to martial arts and taking a walk with their birds. A tradition is every day at noon to fire the Day Noon Gun, and we just were passing there. Then we went to the City Hall and through the admiralty district. After a short break in Hong Kong Park , we then walked through Central and up the escalator to the Mid-Levels. In the evening we again went with the Peak Tram to the Sky Terrace and enjoyed the view at night.

Hong Kong is definitely worth a visit. It is a very clean city with beautiful parks, striking architecture and many attractions. The extreme contrasts are really incredible, you go around a corner and think you are in a completely different city or world. Here, the western and eastern world meets each other directly. Unfortunately, the two days were over very quickly, but we've seen a lot and get a great impression.
